Welcome to the website of the Villa de Xixón Bagpipe Band . Here you will be able to know all the details of the Band, its history, the traditional music school, upcoming events and many more details.

The Villa de Xixón Bagpipe Band was created in 2000. We bring traditional Asturian music from Cimadevilla to New York, France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, entertaining and actively participating in pilgrimages and festivals throughout the national and international geography.

On June 6, 1999, the Banda de Gaitas Villa de Xixón Cultural Association was founded, an association that welcomes people with a common interest in the city of Gijón, traditional Asturian music and, as its latest expression, the formation of a bagpipe band. As an important part of this project, the influence and contribution of the Villa de Xixón School of Traditional Music stands out, which would help in the dissemination of our music and the social enrichment of the association.

During the first year of existence, the musical group develops both in formation and number of components as well as in instruments and resources, being the first official performance on June 18, 2000 at the festivities of the Cabueñes parish of Gijón, which would be followed by another fortnight that same summer.

Fourteen summers are those that have been counted since then in which borders have been crossed, innovated, learned, and above all, enjoyed. There are fifteen years of music and experiences in which some performances such as Asturias Day in Grevenbroich (Germany), the International Tourism Fair in Madrid or the Fallas de Valencia stand out. The highly recommended interceltic festivals of Guingamp and Guérande in hospitable French Brittany or the closest and most renowned Interceltic Festival of Ortigueira in Galicia, Sicily, and performances as relevant as those carried out in the Saint Patrick parade in NEW YORK 2005, 2006 and 2014 , Festival of maritime traditions of Sête France, etc.

We have paraded through places as disparate as the 5th Avenue in New York on St. Patrick’s Day, along the Champs Elysées in Paris together with formations of 400 musicians, along the beautiful promenade of Palma de Mallorca or the massive Pilar parade in Zaragoza.
